Fresh off of their first international tour, the award-winning Spiritus Chamber Choir celebrates the joy of choral music for children! Intended for kids aged 5 to 99, this concert will warm your heart and bring a smile to your face. Songs of insects, birds and animals will be brought to life through the imagination of Banjo Puppets! A musical tale of about a Fiery Dragon is the centrepiece to the program, but fear not – this dragon is not as fierce as you think! This program will bring young and old together in a fun and joyous celebration.

Be greeted by luminaries outside and warmed by the glow of candlelight and ethereal harmonies inside one of Calgary’s most beautiful historic churches, Christ Church Elbow Park. International award-winning Spiritus Chamber Choir presents a program of glorious seasonal music, by a range of composers from Mendelssohn and Rachmaninov, to Pärt and Jackson. We will feature several Canadian composers, including R. Murray Schafer, Allan Bevan and Jeff Enns. In 2010, this concert sold out, so we have added a second performance! As a prelude to the performance, come and listen to the Christ Church Tower Bells.
Following the concert, join the choir for a light reception.

Join Spiritus Chamber Choir on a journey to 17th century France, to hear some of the greatest music of the time. Marc-Antoine Charpentier, born the year of Monteverdi’s death, lived in the shadow of his great contemporary Jean-Baptiste Lully. His music, however, was written with both an elegance and dramatic joie-de-vivre that is characteristic of French music to this day. Calgary audiences will be thrilled by the beauty and grace of Charpentier’s Mass for 8 voices, violins & flutes. The dramatic string playing will be handled by some of Alberta’s finest baroque musicians and guests from across the country.

$30 Adults | $25 Students/Seniors

Calgary audiences are in for a treat as Edmonton’s Da Camera Singers and Calgary’s international award-winning Spiritus Chamber Choir join forces to present one of the greatest unaccompanied works for choir, Rachmaninov’s famous “All-Night Vigil,” known as the “Vespers”. Rachmaninov’s soaring melodies and rich harmonic colours are perfectly wedded with the ancient chant and vocal tradition of the Russian Orthodox Church. You will be rapt by the sound of the combined choirs in St. Mary’s Cathedral, Calgary. The concert is co-conducted by John Brough and Timothy Shantz, and can be heard again the following day in Edmonton, at First Baptist Church, 3pm. Tickets:
